Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swamped By Gators

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius softball team dropped two games to the Allegheny Gators (4-7) this Wednesday, Mar 12.

The Mounties would open with a handful of quick innings against Allegheny, with both teams adjusting to pitches. The Gators would strike first in the third, hitting a pair of doubles to go up 1-0. Adding another to their lead in the fourth off a Mountie error, Allegheny would give up the sole Mountie run of the day, with junior Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa., DuBois) hitting a triple, brought in for the RBI by a single from senior Whitney Cole (McDonald, Pa., South Fayette)

The Mounties would immediately face their toughest inning of the game, with Allegheny scoring two more runs on two hits and two errors. The Mounties would be unable to make up the deficit, ending the first game 1-4.

The second game would see the Mounties fare no better. The visitors would narrowly escape the first, converting a ground out with the bases loaded. Struggling at the plate, the Mounties would come up empty, while Allegheny would score a run on three singles in the bottom of the second. With neither team finding much success through the next four innings, it would be the sixth that would seal the game, with Allegheny scoring three runs on three hits late to put the game away. The Mounties would keep fighting, getting two runners on at second and third in the final inning, but a ground out and a strike out would end the day in a 0-4 loss for the visitors.

Mountie softball returns to action this Monday, Mar 17, in Little River, South Carolina. The Mounties will open the week of games against St. Joesph's - Long Island and Hartwick.
