Little River, SC – The Mounties played their final two spring break games today, facing off against Hartwick at 9 AM and Maine-Presque Isle at 11 AM. The Mounties aimed to build momentum before returning home to Cresson, PA.
GAME 1 vs. Hartwick
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Mounties jumped to a 3-0 lead after
Emma O'Leary (Rothesay, Canada, Rothesay) and
Morgan Hassen (Northern Cambria, Pa., Northern Cambria) reached base with back-to-back singles.
Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa., DuBois) then added an RBI single, bringing O'Leary home, and a Hartwick error allowed both Henninger and Hassen to cross the plate.
In the fifth inning, the Mounties broke the game open. Henninger drove in a run with a double,
Whitney Cole (McDonald, Pa., South Fayette) followed with a two-RBI triple, and
Maggie Cypher (Kittanning, Pa., Armstrong) cleared the bases with a two-run home run to left field. The Mounties would hold Hartwick scoreless throughout the game.
Sierra Walters (East Freedom, Pa., Claysburg-Kimmel) pitched all five innings for the Mounties, throwing 74 pitches and striking out seven batters. She finished the game with a 0.00 ERA.
GAME 2 vs. Maine-Presque Isle
The Mounties' final game of their spring break trip was against Maine-Presque Isle. Building off their dominant 8-0 win in the previous game, they continued their strong play.
On the mound for the Mounties was
Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa., Crestwood), who had a career day. Koptcho, pitched all seven innings, allowing just one run and striking out a career-high 12 batters. She picked up her first win of the season.
As a team, the Mounties batted .280 in the game, showcasing strong pitching and hitting.
Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa., DuBois) and
Whitney Cole (McDonald, Pa., South Fayette) both went 2-for-4 at the plate, posting a .500 average for the game. Teammate
Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa., Bishop Canevin) also had a solid performance, going 2-for-3 and holding a .666 batting average.
The Mounties swept the day, winning both games 2-0 and outscoring their opponents 12-1 overall.
