Cresson, Pa. – The Mount Aloysius Mounties (7-6, 0-0) played their first home game of the 2025 season today, hosting Penn State Mont Alto Lions (9-7, 0-0) for a doubleheader. The Mounties aimed to start the season strong by defending their home field.
GAME 1
In Game 1, the Mounties fell behind early, giving up two runs in the first inning. The 2-run deficit remained unchanged for much of the game until the Mounties exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-2 lead. They added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, extending their lead to 7-2 before closing out the game in the top of the seventh.
Strong all-around play from the Mounties helped secure the win.
Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa., DuBois) went 3-for-4 at the plate, while
Whitney Cole (McDonald, Pa., South Fayette) drove in 3 RBIs.
Kendra Gardner (Mount Union, Pa. , Mount Union) also contributed with 2 RBIs.
Sierra Walters (East Freedom, Pa., Claysburg-Kimmel) earned the win on the mound, pitching all 7 innings. She threw 122 pitches, struck out 9 batters, and allowed just 2 earned runs.
GAME 2
In Game 2, the Mounties carried the momentum from their 7-2 victory and jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings. Only two more runs were scored for the rest of the game, with the Mounties winning 6-1.
At the plate,
Whitney Cole had another strong performance, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
Sophie Smith (Mapleton Depot, Pa., Mount Union) (East Freedom, Pa., Claysburg-Kimmel) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and
Greysyn Gable (Kylertown, Pa., West Branch Area HS) (East Freedom, Pa., Claysburg-Kimmel) also went 2-for-3, scoring 2 runs.
Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa., Crestwood) got the win on the mound, pitching all 7 innings. She threw 88 pitches, struck out 10 batters, and allowed just 1 earned run.
