GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team traveled to Gettysburg, on Saturday, for a doubleheader against the 21st-ranked Bullets. It would be their first set of games back following the spring break trip. The Mounties stayed close with the Bullets, in Game One, before falling, 2-1. Then in Game Two, Gettysburg led from the start and finished off the sweep.
In Game One, the Mounties served as the home team, since the contest was originally scheduled to be played in Cresson. Mount Aloysius loaded the bases with one out in the second inning, whereĀ
Trent Dickson (Reinholds, Pa. / Cocalico) hit a sacifice fly, giving the Mounties a 1-0 lead. The RBI was his 16th of the season, which leads the team.
Unfortunately for the Mounties, they would only pick up five total hits across the final five frames, limiting their offensive chances. The Bullets scratched across two runs in the fifth inning, taking a 2-1 lead, and managed to keep the Mounties scoreless to earn the 2-1 victory.
Game Two was Gettysburg's turn to be the home team. They scored 18 runs scattered across the first five innings to take a commanding 18-0 lead. Mount AloysiusĀ pushed a run across in the sixth inning, whenĀ
Tyler Alexander (Portage, Pa. /Ā Portage) singled with two outs, driving in
Jameson Chalupka (Lackawanna, N.Y. /Ā Canisius). They would be unable to get anything else going, falling 18-1.
The Mounties dropped to 11-5 overall, while the Bullets improved to 17-1. Mount Aloysius is now set to open the home portion of the schedule, on Tuesday, as they are scheduled to host Lancaster Bible. The Chargers are 10-9 to open the season, while scoring at least ten runs in eight of their victories.
