Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

The Mounties Season Ends in New York

BUFFALO, NY – The Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball team (9-15, 3-3 AMCC) hit the road to take on the Buffalo State Bengals (19-11, 7-0 AMCC) in the first round of the AMCC playoffs. This marked a historic moment for the Mounties, as it was their first-ever appearance in the conference postseason. Eager to make a statement, they faced a tough and familiar opponent in Buffalo State, who they had battled earlier in the season.

The first set was a back-and-forth contest as both teams looked to establish early momentum. The Mounties held their ground, but the Bengals managed to edge them out in a tightly contested 25-22 finish.

Looking to bounce back in the second set, Mount Aloysius tried to adjust and disrupt Buffalo State's rhythm. However, the Bengals found their groove and went on a dominant run, taking the set 25-11 and extending their lead to 2-0.

Facing elimination, the Mounties put up a fight in the third set but ultimately fell short, dropping the set 25-14. With that, their historic season came to an end in Buffalo.

Despite the tough loss, there were several strong performances for Mount Aloysius. Tayshaun Johnson (Uniondale, N.Y., Uniondale) led the team with eight kills and one block. Evan Schmidt (Loganville, Pa. , Dallastown Area) led the offense with 18 assists. On the defensive end, Corey Obeldobel (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) contributed a team-high six digs.

Though the season ended sooner than they hoped, the Mounties have plenty to be proud of. Making the playoffs for the first time in program history is a huge milestone, and the experience gained this season sets the stage for even greater success in 2026. With momentum on their side, the future looks bright for Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball.
