Cresson, Pa. – The Mountie Softball Team (11-10, 4-2 AMCC) took the field today in a doubleheader against the Juniata College Eagles (9-21, 1-7 Landmark). It was more than just a game at Mount Aloysius—today was the "Strike Out Breast Cancer" day, a special occasion dedicated to raising awareness and supporting those in our communities who have been affected by cancer.
The team shared a heartfelt message before the game:
"Cancer touches the lives of so many—our families, our friends, our teammates, and our neighbors. Today, we take a moment to show our support, stand together, and remember those we have lost, those who are courageously fighting, and those who have triumphed."
Mount Aloysius College was proud to announce that through today's "Strike Out Cancer" efforts, $373.75 was raised for the
Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center in Windber, Pennsylvania—a facility known for its compassionate, state-of-the-art care and support for individuals battling breast cancer. The Mountie family extends sincere thanks to everyone who contributed and helped make a difference in our community.
Game One
The Mounties fell behind early in Game One as Juniata jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Offensive struggles plagued Mount Aloysius throughout the game, as they were held to just four hits.
Despite the scoring drought, there were still bright spots for the Mounties.
Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa., DuBois) went 2-for-3 at the plate, collecting a double and a single.
Brenna Watts (Thompsontown, Pa. , East Juniata) finished 1-for-2, and
Greysyn Gable (Kylertown, Pa., West Branch Area HS) added a hit as a pinch hitter.
Juniata capitalized on their early momentum, scoring 11 runs in just five innings while tallying 10 hits. The game concluded in the fifth due to the eight-run rule, and Mount Aloysius dropped the opener of the doubleheader.
Game Two
The Mounties found a spark heading into Game Two, showing renewed energy at the plate. The offense found some momentum, putting up six runs and displaying several positive takeaways.
Kendra Gardner (Mount Union, Pa. , Mount Union) led the way with two RBIs, while
Sarah Henninger reached base twice with a base hit and drawing a walk.
Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa., Bishop Canevin) and
Greysyn Gable both went 2-for-3, helping fuel the Mounties' offense.
However, the Eagles remained red-hot at the plate, scoring 16 runs on 15 hits, including two home runs. Despite the Mounties' improved offensive output, Game Two also ended after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
