Mounties Earn Massive Victory on Senior Day

Cresson, Pa. - The Mount Aloysius women's lacrosse team (6-6, 4-1 AMCC) hosted Senior Day at Kelly Field, where the Mounties stormed to a 15-3 victory over the Hilbert Hawks (1-9, 0-5 AMCC). 

First Quarter: 1-0 Mount Aloysius
  • The first quarter would be a defensive quarter, with the Mounties keeping the Hawks at arm's length. The Hawks would be limited to only one shot in the quarter.
  • In terms of the Hawks, goalkeeper Olivia Cleary, had a solid quarter, saving six of the Mounties' seven shots on goal. 
  • The Mount's only goal of the quarter would come on a man advantage, with Maggie Cason (Spotsylvania, Va. / Riverbend) setting up Jordan Turner (Grampian, Pa. / Curwensville).
Second Quarter: 7-0 Mount Aloysius
  • The second quarter would be much more open offensively, with the Mounties scoring six goals during the period.
  • The second goal would come after Shelby Smeal (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) won the ball back for the Mounties in the defensive half. The Mounties would work the ball forward before Cassidy Cook (Glen Burnie, Md. / North County) would power home to make it 2-0.
  • Clara Larios-Soto (Laurel, Md. / Laurel) would find a way past Cleary for the Mounties' fifth goal. 
  • Cook would set up Brenna Dobson (Lewistown, Pa., Mifflin County), whose chipped shot would be the Mounties' seventh and final of the half. 
Third Quarter: 11-3 Mount Aloysius
  • This quarter would be the most even of the quarters, with Hilbert looking to cut the deficit.
  • Hilbert's Jessee Jonathan would score the first goal of the half to end the Mounties' chances of having a shutout.
  • Mount Aloysius would respond though, scoring four unanswered goals to extend their lead to 11-1.
  • Both team would trade goals to end the quarter 12-3.
Fourth Quarter: 15-3 Mount Aloysius
  • Larios-Soto would help set up the 13th goal, winning a foul and passing the ball to Smeal who would provide the assist for Sage Hoover (Dalmatia, Pa. / Line Mountain).
  • The Mounties would score two free position shots to close out Senior Day with a 15-3 victory.
Goalscorers
Women's lacrosse will finish out their regular season with a trip to Pittsburgh to face the La Roche Redhawks (11-1, 5-0 AMCC) on Thursday, April 24th. The Mounties will look to avenge a bruising 14-1 loss from their first meeting this season.
