EBENSBURG, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's tennis team scored a 4-3 win over the visiting Waynesburg University (1-11, 0-8 PAC) this Sunday, Apr 6. Freshman
Amelia Miller (Scottdale, Pa., Southmoreland) would secure the winning point at four singles with a straight sets victory.
Relocated to Ebensburg Tennis Center due to inclement weather, the Mounties started the Sunday's match up with a strong showing in doubles. Despite a loss at three, the Mounties would put away key volleys en route to wins at the one and two positions, locking up the doubles point for the home team.
Singles would see two tight matches at the two and three spots, with sophomore
Lauryn Kitchen (Clearfield, PA, Clearfield) and junior
Julia Davis (Mount Pleasant, PA, Southmoreland ) each going to three sets at their positions. Kitchen would take the first set at two singles 7-5, consolidating a break late in the set to take the first after back-and-forth baseline play. Dropping the second 5-7 in another close contest, Kitchen would redouble her focus in the third set tiebreak, dominating throughout to take the 10-1 victory. After a straight set win at one singles from sophomore
Caylie Conlon (New Paris, PA, Chestnut Ridge), the Mounties needed one more win to take the meet. Miller would seal the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win at four singles, pushing the Mounties past the visiting Yellow Jackets with steady play.
The Mountie women return to action this Friday against Saint Vincent, indoors at Greensburg Racquet Club. The Bearcats enter the contest 16-4 this season, coming off a 5-2 Spring Break win over Bridgewater College.
