Mounties Suffer Heartbreak in Championship

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's lacrosse team traveled to Pittsburgh, on Saturday, to face the La Roche Redhawks for the AMCC Championship. The Mounties would look to win their first ever AMCC Championship. Unfortunately, it would not happen, as they lost 12-6 against La Roche.

The Mounties started out sluggish, turning the ball over 10 times in the first quarter, compared to La Roche's two times. Throughout the quarter, they would only muster two shots, while the Redhawks would shoot nine times.

Things would pick up in the second half, with the Mounties mounting a comeback. In the third quarter alone, they would muster seven shots, which was equal to their number of shots in the entire first half. They would also turn the ball over less in the second half, eight and four times respectively. However, it would not be enough as the Redhawks would keep up the momentum, scoring seven goals in the second half to win 12-6.

The goal scorers for the Mounties were: Cassidy Cook (Glen Burnie, Md., North County) with three, Katelyn Garber (Midlothian, Va. / Manchester), Clara Larios-Soto (Laurel, Md. / Laurel), and Isabella Panichelle (Butler, Pa. / Butler) each with one.

Cook, along with Sage Hoover (Dalmatia, Pa. / Line Mountain) and Shelby Smeal (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) were named to the All-Tournament Team, as part of the post-game awards ceremony.

The Mounties finish the season with an overall record of 7-8 and a conference record of 4-2. They will look to get over the championship bump next year. Women's lacrosse will look a little bit different in 2026, with the AMCC recently announcing a partnership with the United East, which will feature a crossover championship that will lead to an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament.
