Union, N.J. – Women's volleyball continued play Saturday, with today's tri-match @ Kean University. The Mounties dropped game one to Kean 3-1 and game two to Lynchburg University 3-0.
Game one: The Mounties fell behind 2–0 after the Cougars controlled the opening two sets, but Mount Aloysius responded with energy in the third. Behind strong attacking at the net, the Mounties rallied to take the third set and force a fourth. Kean, however, regrouped in the final frame to close out the match.
Three Mounties finished with double-digit kills in a balanced offensive effort. Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler), Poliana Lazarini (Marialva, Pr, Brazil / Garrido), and Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) each tallied 10 kills to pace the attack.
Game two:
Lynchburg controlled the match offensively, recording 50 kills compared to 22 for the Mounties. Despite several strong rallies, Mount Aloysius struggled to match Lynchburg's pace and consistency at the net.
The match capped a tough two-day stretch to start the season in which the Mounties played four matches. After the grueling slate, they'll get some much-needed rest before returning to action on Thursday as they host Penn State Du Bois (JV) Thursday @ 7 PM.
