Williamsport, PA - The Women's Volleyball team picked up a convincing 3-0 road victory over the Lycoming College Warriors on Tuesday night at Lamade Gymnasium. The Mounties hit an impressive .339 as a team and controlled the match from start to finish to extend their win streak to three and overall record to 4-3.
The Mounties set the tone early, cruising to a 25-15 win in the opening set behind a dominant .417 hitting percentage. The second set proved to be the tightest of the evening. The Mounties jumped out to an 8-3 lead before Lycoming battled back, creating multiple lead changes down the stretch. Although Lycoming led late in the second set, the Mounties fought back and secured the frame, 26-24, to take a commanding 2-0 lead. They closed out the match with another strong showing in set three, 25-15.
Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) powered the Mounties' offense with a match-high 21 kills while adding 12 digs. The reigning AMCC Offensive Player of the Week was joined in double figures by reigning AMCC Defensive Player of the Week, Poliana Lazarini (Marialva, Brazil / Garrido) who had 11 kills and 10 digs.
Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) was the other Mountie player with double-digit kills (10). Setter Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt) dished out 24 assists, while fellow setter Kiersten Cummings (Las Vegas, Nev, Nevada State) chipped in 19. Defensively, Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) led the team with 15 digs, while Richards and Lazarini each reached double digits as well.
As a team, Mount Aloysius recorded 49 kills compared to Lycoming's 33 and held the Warriors to a .178 hitting percentage.
What's Next: WVB will travel to Westminster, MD on Friday for a quad-match with the host school being McDaniel College. The Mounties begin play with Penn College on Friday at 5 PM. They'll follow up Friday's match with two on Saturday versus North Carolina Wesleyan (12 PM) and host McDaniel College (4 PM).
