Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) etched her name into the Mount Aloysius women's volleyball record book on Tuesday night, powering the Mounties to a 3-0 sweep of La Roche at the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center. The Mounties won by scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-18 to extend their winning streak to seven, improving to 8-3 on the year.
Richards was the centerpiece of the Mounties attack, delivering a career-high 28 kills (previously 24) on 53 attempts while hitting .415. Her 9.33 kills per set not only set a new personal best but also broke the program record for kills per set in a single match, surpassing the previous mark of 7.65. She rounded out her performance with 13 digs and two service aces, finishing with a match-high 30.5 points.
The Mounties' offense was efficient across the board, finishing with 49 kills and a .268 hitting percentage. Junior Poliana Lazarini (Marialva, Brazil / Garrido) continues to cause havoc on both sides, tallying eight kills and a team-high 18 digs. Senior Kaylee Smith (Altoona, Pa., Altoona) was nearly flawless at the net, putting down five kills on nine swings for a .556 hitting percentage, while Junior Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) and Sophomore Aviana Chilmaza (Mechanicsburg, Pa., Cumberland Valley) chipped in with four and two kills, respectively.
Once again, Mount Aloysius benefitted from strong playmaking in its two-setter system. Junior Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt) paced the offense with 23 assists, six digs, and a service ace, while Freshman Kiersten Cummings (Las Vegas, Nev, Nevada State) added 19 assists, eight digs, and one ace. Junior Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) anchored the back row with 17 digs, helping keep La Roche's offense in check. As a team, the Mounties totaled 68 digs and limited the Redhawks to a .100 hitting percentage.
From the service line, Mount Aloysius delivered six aces, with Richards, Wilson, and Cummings each contributing one. Despite committing nine service errors, the Mounties consistently applied pressure and controlled momentum throughout the match.
The Mounties (8-3) will look to keep things rolling as they host Wilson College (0-8) at the ACWC on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
