Cresson, Pa --The Mount Aloysius Mounties opened their 2026 men's volleyball season Tuesday night, falling 3–0 in non-conference action at the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
Despite the result, the Mounties showed growth as the match progressed, improving their offensive efficiency and competing more evenly in the final two sets after a challenging opening frame.
Mount Aloysius was led offensively by Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler), who finished with a team-high eight kills while also recording six digs. Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) added five kills and paced the offense with 10 assists, helping the Mounties find rhythm in sets two and three. Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) contributed on both sides of the ball with two kills and four digs, while Corey Obeldobel (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) recorded the team's lone service ace of the night.
After dropping the first set, the Mounties responded with a stronger second frame, improving their attack percentage and limiting errors. That momentum carried into the third set, where Mount Aloysius continued to battle, posting their highest kill total of the match and keeping rallies competitive late.
Defensively, the Mounties totaled 18 digs, with Rosenwald, Freed, and Bryson Brooks (Martinsburg, Pa., Central) anchoring the back row. The team also showed improved ball control as the match went on, setting a foundation to build upon as the season progresses.
Mount Aloysius returns to action later this week as they continue their early-season schedule and look to carry forward the positives from their season opener.
