Box Score Alfred N.Y. - Women's basketball traveled to New York this weekend, having a match-up with AMCC opponent Alfred State (9-7, 4-3 AMCC). It was a tight game, until the Pioneers' fourth quarter push gave them a 69-60 victory over the Mounties. Â
The Mounties got off to a solid start, opening the game with a 17-15 edge after the first quarter and trading punches with the Pioneers through a tightly contested first half. Alfred State used a strong second quarter to take a narrow 32-30 advantage into the break, setting the stage for a back-and-forth second half that featured 12 lead changes and five ties.
The Mounties continued to answer in the third quarter, as Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) anchored the offense and glass. The junior posted her 12th double-double of the season with 16 points and 18 rebounds, controlling the paint and keeping the Mounties within striking distance. Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) added an efficient 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting despite being in foul trouble, while Annalyn Isaacs (Harmony, Pa., Mars) knocked down three triples and finished with nine points.
The game remained close entering the fourth, but Alfred State pulled away late by capitalizing at the free-throw line and on second-chance opportunities. The Pioneers outscored the Mounties 21-14 in the final period, using timely baskets and offensive rebounds to create separation. Despite shooting 40.4 percent from the field and matching Alfred State on the boards for much of the afternoon, the Mounties were unable to close the gap down the stretch.
Â
With the loss, Mount Aloysius falls to 5-10 overall and 3-3 in the AMCC. The Mounties will take their three-game losing streak into Monday as they'll host the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (1-13, 1-4 AMCC) at 7:00 pm in the ACWC.Â
