POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Mount Aloysius Mounties dropped a three-set decision Saturday morning, falling 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 on the road at Kenyon Hall.
Mount Aloysius stayed competitive early, trading points throughout the opening set before the home team pulled away late to secure a four-point margin. The Mounties recorded nine kills in the frame but were unable to slow an efficient attack that hit over .430 in the set.
The Mounties continued to battle in the second set, with Connor O'Mealia (Rochester, N.Y., Churchville) directing the offense and Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) and Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) contributing timely kills. Mount Aloysius kept the set close midway through, but a late run by the hosts pushed the advantage to seven.
In the third set, Mount Aloysius showed resilience, cutting into an early deficit behind strong defensive play and improved ball control. Evan Sigel (Bedford, Pa., Bedford) and Rosenwald each added key points at the net, while Rosenwald anchored the back row with a team-high seven digs. Despite the effort, the Mounties could not close the gap as the match concluded in straight sets.
Rosenwald led Mount Aloysius with six kills, two aces, and seven digs, while O'Mealia finished with 12 assists and five digs. Bryson Brooks (Martinsburg, Pa., Central) added five digs in the loss.
Mount Aloysius finished the match with 20 kills, four service aces, and one team block.
