Bradford, Pa. - On Saturday afternoon, women's basketball hit the road for a conference match-up versus the Pitt-Bradford Panthers. The game was moved up from its original start time due to the expected snowstorm that is expected to hit just a short time after midnight. Â The Mounties never trailed on Saturday afternoon, rolling to an 80-57 road victory over Pitt-Bradford at the McDowell Sport & Fitness Center.
The Mounties set the tone immediately, opening the game on an 18-0 run before the Panthers scored their first points at the free-throw line with 2:17 left in the first quarter. Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples)Â jump-started the early surge, knocking down three triples as Mount Aloysius raced out to a commanding 24-6 advantage after one.
Pitt-Bradford settled in during the second quarter and briefly cut into the deficit, trailing just 27-16 following a Mounties timeout with 4:14 remaining in the half. Mount Aloysius answered once again, closing the quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 35-18 lead into halftime.
The two teams went back and forth throughout the third quarter, but the Mounties continued to control the game on both ends of the floor. Mount Aloysius matched Pitt-Bradford basket for basket and extended the lead to 56-38 heading into the final period.
Any hopes of a Panthers comeback were quickly erased to start the fourth. The Mounties opened the quarter on a decisive 15-4 run, fueled by multiple baskets from Richards and Annalyn Isaacs (Harmony, Pa., Mars), pushing the margin past 20Â and putting the game out of reach.
Richards and Isaacs led Mount Aloysius with 17 points apiece, combining for seven three-pointers. Mariah Hall (New Enterprise, Pa., Northern Bedford) added nine points off the bench, while Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) finished with eight. Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) was dominant on the glass, pulling down 19 rebounds to anchor a Mounties effort that saw them out-rebound Bradford 52-36.
With the win, the Mounties improve to 7-11 overall and 5-4 in AMCC play, while Pitt-Bradford falls to 0-16 on the season and 0-8 in conference action.
The Mounties will wrap up the month of January this Wednesday when they take on the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (1-16, 1-7 AMCC). Tipoff will be at 7 PM inside Chambers Hall in Greensburg, PA. The Mounties defeated the Bobcats on Monday by the score of 87-43.Â
