HAMBURG, N.Y. — The Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team continued its strong start to conference play on Saturday, October 10, earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Hilbert College at Varsity Field.
The Mounties showcased their offensive firepower throughout the afternoon, overcoming a first-half deficit to secure their second conference victory of the season. With the win, Mount Aloysius improved to 4-5-3 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 2-0.
Mount Aloysius wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, striking just 1:12 into the contest. Zack Marshfield (Stroud, England, Stroud High Sixth Form) found the back of the net off an assist from Declan Berry (Taunton, England, Pyrland School), giving the Mounties an early 1-0 advantage.
Hilbert responded with two goals during the opening half, putting Mount Aloysius behind 2-1. However, the Mounties continued to generate offensive opportunities and found the equalizer just before halftime.
In the 43rd minute, Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl) converted a penalty kick to tie the match at 2-2, sending both teams into the break on even terms.
The Mounties carried their offensive momentum into the second half, continuing to pressure the Hilbert defense. Their persistence paid off in the 61st minute when Ethan Daley (Chislehurst, England, Farringtons School) scored the eventual game-winning goal off an assist from Rasmus Andersson (Orebro, Sweden, Virginska Gymnasiet), putting Mount Aloysius ahead 3-2.
Mount Aloysius maintained control throughout the remainder of the match, holding Hilbert without a single shot in the second half. The Mounties' defensive effort helped preserve the one-goal advantage and secure the road victory.
Offensively, Mount Aloysius dominated the statistical categories, outshooting Hilbert 26-4 and holding a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Mounties recorded 13 shots on goal, consistently creating scoring chances throughout the contest.
Marshfield led the offensive attack with six shots and a goal, while Axel Qvarnstroem (Uppsala, Sweden, Katedralskolan ) added five shots, including three on target. Donner contributed four shots and a goal, while Daley provided the decisive second-half score.
In goal, Sam Denchfield (Truro, England, Loughborough College) played all 90 minutes for Mount Aloysius, helping anchor a defensive unit that shut down Hilbert's attack over the final 45 minutes.
With the victory, Mount Aloysius moves to 4-5-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, building momentum as the Mounties continue their 2026 campaign. They take on Pitt-Greensburg at home on Tuesday at 7:00pm.
