Mounties Men's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day with 2-0 Victory Over La Roche

CRESSON, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day in winning fashion on Saturday, October 17, earning a 2-0 victory over La Roche University at Kelly Field. The Mounties delivered a strong second-half performance, scoring twice while recording another shutout to remain undefeated in conference play.

Before the match, Mount Aloysius recognized its senior class, honoring the players for their dedication, leadership, and contributions to the men's soccer program. The afternoon provided an opportunity to celebrate the seniors' commitment to the team, both on and off the field, as they continue to leave their mark on Mount Aloysius soccer.

With the victory, the Mounties improved to 6-5-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play, extending their conference winning streak to four matches.

The opening half featured a competitive battle between the two sides, with both teams looking to establish control. Mount Aloysius generated several early scoring opportunities, including two shots from Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl) and an attempt from Ethan Daley (Chislehurst, England, Farringtons School) that forced a save from the La Roche goalkeeper.

Despite the offensive opportunities, neither team found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes, sending the match into halftime tied at 0-0.

The Mounties continued to battle in the second half, looking to break through and give their seniors a memorable victory. Their persistence paid off in the 66th minute when Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges) found the back of the net off assists from Pelayo Martin (Ciudad Real, Spain, IES Santa María de Alarcos) and Daley, giving Mount Aloysius a 1-0 advantage.

The goal provided a spark for the Mounties, who continued to work defensively to preserve their lead. Mount Aloysius remained organized in the back, limiting La Roche's opportunities and preventing the Redhawks from finding an equalizer.

As the match entered its closing minutes, the Mounties delivered the finishing touch. In the 87th minute, Martin scored a free kicik to double the advantage and put the game out of reach. His goal capped off an impressive individual performance that included a goal and an assist.

The Mounties' defense took care of the rest, securing the 2-0 shutout and giving the senior class another memorable moment on their special day.

In goal, Sam Denchfield (Truro, England, Loughborough College) played all 90 minutes, recording one save to earn the clean sheet. The Mount Aloysius defensive unit held La Roche to just one shot on goal despite the Redhawks recording 12 total attempts.

Offensively, Terricabris led the Mounties with three shots and a goal, while Donner added two shots, including one on target. Martin finished with a goal and an assist, while Daley contributed an assist and a shot on goal.

Mount Aloysius finished the contest with eight shots, including five on goal, and three corner kicks. The balanced effort on both ends of the field helped the Mounties secure their fourth consecutive conference victory.

Beyond the final score, Saturday's match served as a celebration of the Mount Aloysius senior class. Their leadership, commitment, and contributions have helped shape the program and establish a strong foundation for the team's success. The Senior Day victory was a fitting recognition of their dedication as the Mounties continue their pursuit of a successful conference season.

With the win, Mount Aloysius moves to 6-5-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Mounties will look to carry their momentum forward as they continue their 2026 campaign.
