Mountie Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten in AMCC Play Following Scoreless Draw with Penn State Behrend

CRESSON, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team continued its unbeaten run in AMCC play on Wednesday, October 21, battling Penn State Behrend to a 0-0 draw at Kelly Field.

The Mounties delivered another strong defensive performance, recording their third consecutive shutout while extending their conference unbeaten streak to five matches. With the result, Mount Aloysius moves to 6-5-4 overall and 4-0-1 in AMCC play, remaining firmly in contention near the top of the conference standings.

The opening half featured a competitive battle between two teams looking to strengthen their positions in the conference race. Penn State Behrend generated early offensive pressure, but the Mounties' defense remained organized and limited the Lions' scoring opportunities.

Sam Denchfield (Truro, England, Loughborough College) provided a key save in the 18th minute to keep the match scoreless. Mount Aloysius began creating opportunities of its own as the half progressed, with Zack Marshfield (Stroud, England, Stroud High Sixth Form), Axel Qvarnstroem (Uppsala, Sweden, Katedralskolan ), and Rasmus Andersson (Orebro, Sweden, Virginska Gymnasiet) each recording shot attempts.

Despite opportunities on both sides, neither team found the back of the net during the opening 45 minutes, sending the match into halftime tied at 0-0.

The Mounties returned from the break with renewed offensive energy, controlling stretches of the second half and creating several scoring opportunities. Mount Aloysius outshot Penn State Behrend 7-3 over the final 45 minutes, applying consistent pressure as the team searched for the breakthrough goal.

Ethan Daley (Chislehurst, England, Farringtons School) opened the second-half offensive effort with a shot in the 52nd minute, followed by an attempt from Qvarnstroem just minutes later. Hugo Olausson Ljungmark (Trelleborg, Sweden, Soderlattsgymnasiet) also contributed a shot as the Mounties continued to push forward.

Mount Aloysius remained aggressive throughout the middle stages of the half, with Andersson and Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl) adding scoring attempts. Tanner Polcyn (Watsontown, Pa., Warrior Run) contributed another opportunity in the 75th minute, while Qvarnstroem recorded a late attempt in the 88th minute as the Mounties continued searching for the game-winner.

Despite the sustained offensive pressure, neither team was able to break the deadlock before the final whistle.

Qvarnstroem led the Mount Aloysius attack with three shots, while Andersson added two. The Mounties finished with 11 total shots compared to nine for Penn State Behrend, demonstrating their ability to generate opportunities against a strong conference opponent.

Defensively, Mount Aloysius continued its impressive stretch of play, limiting Penn State Behrend to just two shots on goal. Denchfield played all 90 minutes, recording two saves to secure his third consecutive shutout.

The Mounties' defensive unit has now gone three straight matches without allowing a goal, a stretch that includes victories over Pitt-Greensburg and La Roche before Wednesday's draw.

With the result, Mount Aloysius remains unbeaten in conference play at 4-0-1, improving to 6-5-4 overall. The Mounties will look to continue their strong conference campaign as they push toward the AMCC postseason.
