Mountie Men's Soccer Defeats Pitt-Bradford, Secures First-Round Bye in AMCC Playoffs

BRADFORD, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team continued its impressive conference campaign on Saturday, October 24, earning a 2-1 road victory over Pitt-Bradford at Rathburn Family Field. The win marked another important milestone for the Mounties, who have secured a first-round bye in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) playoffs.

With the victory, Mount Aloysius improved to 7-5-4 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play, extending its unbeaten streak against AMCC opponents to six matches. The Mounties' consistent performances throughout the conference schedule have positioned them for a strong postseason run.

The opening half featured a competitive battle, with Mount Aloysius generating several scoring opportunities while maintaining a disciplined defensive effort. Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges) helped lead the early offensive attack, recording multiple shots, including an attempt in the 29th minute that struck the crossbar.

Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl), Ethan Daley (Chislehurst, England, Farringtons School), and Tanner Polcyn (Watsontown, Pa., Warrior Run) also contributed offensive opportunities as the Mounties continued to apply pressure. Late in the opening half, Pelayo Martin (Ciudad Real, Spain, IES Santa María de Alarcos) forced a save from the Pitt-Bradford goalkeeper, but neither team was able to break through before halftime.

The Mounties returned from the break with renewed energy, quickly taking control of the match.

In the 52nd minute, Zack Marshfield (Stroud, England, Stroud High Sixth Form) opened the scoring off an assist from Terricabris, giving Mount Aloysius a 1-0 advantage. The goal provided a spark for the Mounties, who continued to push forward in search of another scoring opportunity.

Just under four minutes later, Hugo Olausson Ljungmark (Trelleborg, Sweden, Soderlattsgymnasiet) doubled the advantage with an unassisted goal in the 56th minute, putting Mount Aloysius ahead 2-0.

The two quick goals highlighted the Mounties' offensive efficiency and ability to capitalize on opportunities during crucial moments of the match.

Mount Aloysius continued to generate scoring chances throughout the second half, with Declan Berry (Taunton, England, Pyrland School) providing a strong offensive presence. Berry recorded three shots, all on goal, forcing several saves as the Mounties looked to extend their lead.

Defensively, the Mounties remained composed as Pitt-Bradford attempted to work its way back into the contest. The Panthers scored in the 85th minute to cut the advantage to 2-1, but Mount Aloysius held firm over the final minutes to secure the victory.

Sam Denchfield (Truro, England, Loughborough College) played all 90 minutes in goal, recording four saves to help preserve the win. His performance, combined with the defensive effort in front of him, helped the Mounties withstand the late pressure and earn another important conference result.

Offensively, Terricabris led Mount Aloysius with four shots and an assist, while Martin and Berry each added three shots. Marshfield and Ljungmark each contributed a goal as the Mounties finished with 15 total shots, including six on goal, compared to 11 shots for Pitt-Bradford.

The victory carries significant postseason implications for Mount Aloysius. With a 5-0-1 conference record, the Mounties have secured a first-round bye in the upcoming AMCC Tournament, allowing them to advance directly to the semifinal round.

The achievement reflects the team's consistency throughout conference play, as the Mounties have combined timely scoring, balanced offensive production, and strong defensive performances to remain unbeaten against AMCC opponents.

As the regular season approaches its conclusion, Mount Aloysius has established itself as a strong contender in the conference postseason race. The first-round bye provides an opportunity for the Mounties to prepare for the semifinal round as they continue their pursuit of an AMCC championship.

With the win, Mount Aloysius moves to 7-5-4 overall and 5-0-1 in AMCC play, carrying valuable momentum into the final stretch of the 2026 season.
