Mounties Women's Volleyball Sweeps Carlow in Conference Match

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius College women's volleyball team turned in a dominant performance Friday afternoon, sweeping Carlow University in straight sets to earn another conference victory.

The Mounties controlled the match from start to finish, taking the three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-17. With the victory, Mount Aloysius improved to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Mount Aloysius was efficient offensively throughout the afternoon, finishing with 41 kills and a .363 hitting percentage. The Mounties were particularly effective in the second set, putting down 18 kills while hitting .500. They also created problems from the service line, finishing the match with 13 aces.

Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) led the Mount Aloysius attack with an outstanding performance, recording a match-high 18 kills on 22 attempts with just one error for a .773 hitting percentage. Barr also added a service ace and finished with a match-high 19 points. 

Sarah Iman (Purgitsville, W.V., Moorefield) added seven kills without an attacking error, hitting .583 while also recording a solo block. Jada McGill (Fishertown, Pa, Chestnut Ridge) contributed six kills, while Maya McIlwain (Rural Valley, Pa, West Shamokin) made an impact from the service line with a match-high five aces.

The Mounties also received strong production from their setters. Keira Tracy (Conifer, Colo., Conifer) handed out a match-high 28 assists and added two service aces, while Marissa Brankley (Dover, Fla., Grace Christian) contributed nine assists and an ace. Defensively, Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) led Mount Aloysius with 14 digs. 

Mount Aloysius finished the match with 40 digs while holding Carlow to 14 kills. The balanced effort allowed the Mounties to complete the straight-set victory and continue their strong start to conference play.

The Mounties move to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in conference action following the victory.
