PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Mount Aloysius men's volleyball team opened conference play in strong fashion Tuesday night, sweeping conference opponent Carlow in straight sets, 25-22, 25-20, 25-14, at St. Joe's.
The Mounties (1-10, 1-0 AMCC) controlled the tempo throughout the match, using balanced offense and strong work at the net to earn their first conference victory of the season. Mount Aloysius hit .197 as a team while holding Carlow to a .036 hitting percentage.
Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) led the Mounties with 10 kills and added nine digs, while Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) contributed eight kills, a match-high three aces, and five digs. Connor O'Mealia (Rochester, N.Y., Churchville) efficiently directed the offense with 19 assists and chipped in seven kills to help keep consistent pressure on the Carlow defense.
Defensively, Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) anchored the net with a dominant performance, recording five blocks to pace the Mounties. Evan Sigel (Bedford, Pa., Bedford) and Rosenwald also contributed at the net as Mount Aloysius totaled seven team blocks in the sweep. The Mounties added six service aces and finished with 25 digs to round out a complete team effort.
Mount Aloysius pulled away late in the opening set before tightening its grip in the second, then closed the match decisively in the third, limiting Carlow to just 14 points to seal the conference-opening victory.
The Mounties will look to build on the momentum as AMCC play continues.
