Beaver Falls, Pa. - Mount Aloysius women's lacrosse opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion on Saturday morning, pulling away early and never looking back in a 15-4 victory over Geneva College.
The Mounties set the tone from the opening whistle, scoring four goals in the first quarter to take control. Freshman Chelsea Stout (Grand Blanc, Mich., Grand Blanc) sparked the offense early, scoring twice in the opening period, including a man-up goal, as the Mounties built a 4-1 lead after one quarter of play.
Mount Aloysius continued to build momentum in the second quarter with goals from Shelby Smeal (Altoona, Pa., Altoona), Brenna Dobson (Lewistown, Pa., Mifflin County), and Cassidy Cook (Glen Burnie, Md., North County), extending the advantage to 7-2 at the break.
The Mounties put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring Geneva 5-1. Stout added two more goals in the period, while Cook, Smeal, and Dobson also found the back of the net as Mount Aloysius stretched the lead to 12-3.
Mount Aloysius closed out the scoring with three goals in the fourth quarter, including Stout's fifth of the day, along with goals from Cook and Maggie Cason (Spotsylvania, Va., Riverbend), before Geneva added a late tally.
Stout led all scorers with five goals in her collegiate debut, while Cook, the AMCC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, followed closely with four goals. Smeal and Dobson each recorded two goals, and Cason and Isabella Panichelle (Butler, Pa., Butler) rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Defensively, freshman Courtney Bassett (Mehoopany, Pa, Tunkhannock) anchored the Mounties with a team-high eight ground balls, helping Mount Aloysius control possession throughout the contest. In goal, freshman Keira Murray (Grand Island, N.Y., Grand Island) allowed four goals on 10 shots, and was credited with her first collegiate win.
With the win, the Mounties (1-0) return to action later this week on Thursday. They'll continue on the road, this time at Thiel College in Greenville, PA. The game will begin at 7 pm at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. Thiel (0-2) played AMCC opponent La Roche today and was defeated by the Redhawks by the score of 14-3.
