Mounties Battle, But Fall To Altoona 3-1

Altoona, Pa. - Men's volleyball continued to show signs of progress on Tuesday night, battling through four competitive sets before falling 3-1 to AMCC opponent Penn State Altoona at Adler Arena.

The Mounties stayed within striking distance throughout the match, posting solid offensive stretches in each set. After dropping the opener 25-20, Mount Aloysius responded with its strongest frame of the night in set two, pushing Altoona to the limit and winning 27-25. The Mounties continued to compete in the final two sets, but the Lions closed out the match with 25-18 and 25-19 set wins.

Offensively, the Mounties totaled 38 kills on the night and showed balance at the net. Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) led the way with 14 kills while also adding 14 digs for a strong all-around performance. Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) followed with 12 kills and contributed defensively with two blocks and an ace. Preseason Player to Watch Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) was active on both sides of the net, finishing with six kills, three blocks, and 10 digs.

Connor O'Mealia (Rochester, N.Y., Churchville) directed the Mounties' offense once again, dishing out 33 assists as Mount Aloysius posted one of its higher kill totals in AMCC play this season. Defensively, the Mounties were steady in the back row with 46 digs, continuing to show improved court coverage and energy.

Although the final score did not go in their favor, the Mounties' ability to remain competitive in each set highlighted continued development as they move forward in conference play.

The Mounties (1-18, 1-3 AMCC) will be off for over a week, as they'll host AMCC opponent the Hilbert Hawks (3-11, 1-2 AMCC) next Friday. First serve will be at 7:00 pm inside the ACWC.
