Cresson, Pa -- The Mount Aloysius Mounties battled to the final buzzer but came up just short in a hard-fought 74–67 AMCC setback against Alfred State on Saturday afternoon inside the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
After a slow opening quarter, the Mounties responded with strong energy on both ends. Mount Aloysius outscored Alfred State 19–17 in the second quarter and carried that momentum into halftime, staying within striking distance thanks to disciplined defense and efficient play around the rim. The Mounties then delivered their best stretch of the afternoon in the third quarter, shooting over 60 percent from the field while posting a 22–18 scoring advantage to take control of the game.
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) anchored the Mounties with a dominant all-around performance, finishing with 19 points and 12 rebounds for her double-double effort. Annalyn Isaacs (Harmony, Pa., Mars) added 10 points while helping facilitate the offense, and Brionna Brown (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) chipped in nine points off the bench to provide a spark. Masie Reed (Shamokin, Pa., Our Lady of Lourdes) was strong offensively, scoring eight points and dishing out three assists.
The game tightened late in the fourth quarter as Alfred State capitalized at the free-throw line, but the Mounties continued to compete until the final horn. Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) contributed across the stat sheet with seven rebounds, four steals, and steady perimeter defense, while Mount Aloysius matched Alfred State on the glass with 32 rebounds apiece and forced key turnovers throughout the contest.
Mount Aloysius shot 41.5 percent from the floor and an impressive 88.2 percent from the free-throw line, showcasing poise and balance despite the result. The Mounties move to 6-6 in AMCC play and will look to carry their strong third-quarter momentum into their next conference matchup.
