Mount Aloysius Drops Doubleheader at Waynesburg

GAME ONE:

The Mount Aloysius softball team opened Tuesday's doubleheader with an early lead before falling 8–1.

The Mounties struck first in the top of the second inning. After putting runners in scoring position, Morgan Hassen (Northern Cambria, Pa., Northern Cambria) delivered with a single back to the pitcher that brought Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa., Bishop Canevin) home for the game's first run and a 1–0 Mounties advantage.

Mount Aloysius pitching held the lead through the early innings before the home team rallied in the fourth to take control of the game. Three runs in the inning flipped the momentum and gave the hosts a 3–1 lead.

The Mounties continued to battle offensively, collecting five hits in the contest. Hanna Stedman (Washington, Pa., Trinity), Ava Doyle (Blanchard, Pa, Central Mountain), Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa., Bishop Canevin), Maggie Cypher (Kittanning, Pa., Armstrong), and Morgan Hassen (Northern Cambria, Pa., Northern Cambria) each recorded a hit for Mount Aloysius, while Cypher also reached base with a walk.

On the mound, Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa., Crestwood) started for the Mounties and struck out six hitters over five innings of work. Brenna Watts (Thompsontown, Pa., East Juniata) came on in relief and tossed a scoreless inning.

A late rally in the sixth inning extended the lead and secured the 8–1 final.

GAME TWO:

In the second game of the doubleheader, Mount Aloysius fell 9–1.

The hosts jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning and added three more in the second to take control of the game.

Mount Aloysius recorded three hits in the contest. Greysyn Gable (Kylertown, Pa., West Branch Area HS) led the way with a double, while Hanna Stedman and Aislinn Myers (Sidman, Pa., Forest Hills) also added hits.

The Mounties broke through in the fifth inning. After Gable reached base and Stedman moved into scoring position, Myers lined a single up the middle to bring home Gable for the team's lone run.

Sabrina Tuscan (Latrobe, Pa, Greater Latrobe) got the start in the circle for Mount Aloysius, while Isabella Shupp (Danville, Pa, Meadowbrook Christian School) came on in relief and worked 3.2 innings.

Mount Aloysius continued to battle throughout the game, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as the doubleheader concluded.
