Mount Aloysius Splits Doubleheader in Myrtle Beach; Ross Records First Win As Head Coach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — The Mount Aloysius Mounties split a Tuesday doubleheader at Mackey Adams Field, defeating Arcadia 7-4 in game one before falling 2-0 in game two.

Game One: Mount Aloysius 7, Arcadia 4

The Mounties opened the day with a strong offensive performance, using early momentum to secure a 7-4 victory.

Mount Aloysius struck first in the second inning when Maggie Cypher (Kittanning, Pa., Armstrong) ripped an RBI double to left-center. Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa., Crestwood) followed with an RBI single to give the Mounties a 2-0 lead.

The Mounties broke the game open in the third, scoring four runs. Cypher continued her big day with another RBI hit, while Isabela Marquez (Greensburg, Pa., Greensburg Central Catholic) delivered a two-run single. Koptcho added her second RBI of the game to extend the advantage to 6-0.

Arcadia pushed back with runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, but Mount Aloysius stayed in control throughout. Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa., Bishop Canevin) added an insurance run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.

Cypher led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Marquez and Koptcho each drove in two runs as part of an 11-hit performance for the Mounties. Koptcho earned the win in the circle, striking out five over four innings, while Brenna Watts (Thompsontown, Pa., East Juniata) closed the door over the final three innings.

Game Two: FDU-Florham 2, Mount Aloysius 0

In game two, the Mounties were limited offensively in a tightly contested 2-0 loss.

The opposition scored once in each of the first two innings, taking advantage of early opportunities to build a lead. Mount Aloysius recorded five hits but was unable to string together timely offense, leaving multiple runners on base.

Despite the result, Koptcho turned in a strong outing, allowing just one earned run over six innings while striking out five. The Mounties threatened at times but were unable to break through, as the game remained a pitching duel throughout.
