CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Mount Aloysius fell on the road Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 14-4 decision to Wilson in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Kris's Meadow.
The Mounties (2-3) struck twice in the opening quarter, including a late goal to cut into an early deficit, but Wilson (1-7) responded with a strong first-half surge to take a 10-2 lead into the break. Wilson opened the game on a 3-0 run and maintained control throughout the first half, capitalizing on multiple scoring opportunities.
Mount Aloysius showed signs of life in the third quarter, netting two goals in the final minutes to trim the margin to 12-4, but Wilson answered in the fourth to secure the win.
Brenna Dobson (Lewistown, Pa., Mifflin County) led the Mounties offensively with two goals, while Shelby Smeal (Altoona, Pa., Altoona) and Cassidy Cook (Glen Burnie, Md., North County) each added a goal. Smeal also contributed an assist as part of a two-point performance. Defensively, the Mounties were active throughout the contest, totaling 23 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
In goal, Kirstyn Schoppe (Harleysville, Pa, North Penn) recorded 14 saves across 60 minutes of action, keeping Mount Aloysius within reach despite heavy pressure.
Mount Aloysius will look to bounce back as it returns to action later this week.
