CRESSON, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius Mounties faced a tough test Saturday afternoon against nationally ranked Buffalo State Bengals, with the No. 19 Bengals earning a 3–0 victory in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.
Buffalo State won by set scores of 25–17, 25–20 and 25–20 inside the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
Mount Aloysius showed improvement as the match progressed, keeping the second and third sets close after dropping the opener. The Mounties trimmed the deficit late in both sets but were unable to overcome Buffalo State's efficient attack, as the visitors finished with a .333 hitting percentage and 47 kills.
Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) led the Mounties offensively with seven kills and added a team-best three service aces. Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) contributed five kills and seven digs, while Connor O'Mealia (Rochester, N.Y., Churchville) added four kills and 12 assists to help pace the Mount Aloysius offense.
Defensively, Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) and Diegelman each collected seven digs, while Bryson Brooks (Martinsburg, Pa., Central) added six digs and two aces. Evan Sigel (Bedford, Pa., Bedford) recorded the Mounties' lone block of the match.
As a team, Mount Aloysius finished with 21 kills, five aces and 31 digs while battling one of the nations top teams.
The Mounties (2–19, 2–4 AMCC) will look to regroup as they continue Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.
