Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team closed out it's regular season with a 5-1 victory over Carlow on Tuesday afternoon, earning a strong finish ahead of the AMCC Tournament.
The Mounties, who had already secured the No. 3 seed entering the match, took care of business early by claiming two of the three doubles points. Tristen Ruffley (Bedford, Pa., Bedford) and Colin Gable cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Cole Taylor (Bedford, PA, Bedford HS / St Francis University) and Corey Obeldobel (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) added a 6-4 victory at No. 3 to give the Mounties the early advantage.
In singles play, the Mounties continued their momentum despite rainy conditions limiting the completion of the match. Ruffley, Gable, and Noah Noel (Cresson, Pa., Penn Cambria)Â each earned straight-set wins in the top three spots, while Obeldobel remained strong with a dominant performance at No. 6 singles. Carlow picked up it's lone point at No. 4.
Weather ultimately cut the match short before all singles flights could be fully completed, but the Mounties had already clinched the team victory to cap the regular season at 4-7 overall.
With the regular season complete, the Mounties now shift their focus to the postseason. Mount Aloysius will face No. 2 seed Penn State Altoona in the AMCC Tournament on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, Pennsylvania.
