Mounties Earn Split in Road Doubleheader with Redhawks

Pittsburgh, PA - Mount Aloysius and La Roche split a back-and-forth doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, as the Mounties used an offensive explosion to take game one before the Redhawks answered with a late-inning rally in game two. The two teams combined for 34 runs and 53 hits across the twinbill, showcasing plenty of firepower in an entertaining day of action before the rain came.

Game 1: Mount Aloysius 12, La Roche 6

Baseball showed up in Saturday's opener, powering past La Roche, 12-6, behind a relentless lineup and a strong outing on the mound. The Mounties piled up 15 hits and scored in six of the seven innings, setting the tone early and never relinquishing control.

After manufacturing a run in the first inning, the Mounties seized momentum in the second as Tyler Alexander (Portage, Pa., Portage) launched a three-run home run to break the game open. That swing ignited a dominant stretch for the Mount, which continued to apply pressure with quality at-bats and timely hitting throughout the middle innings. Alexander was the catalyst all afternoon, moving into second place in the AMCC in homeruns (8) after finishing with two home runs and five RBI in a standout performance.

The Mounties lineup produced from top to bottom, with Logan Quade (Mechanicsville, Md., Chopticon ) leading the charge with a four-hit day, while Trent Dickson (Reinholds, Pa., Cocalico)  added three hits and an RBI. Sidric Grove (Clearville, Pa., Everett) did what a leadoff hitter should do, reach base multiple times and scored four runs, consistently setting the table for the heart of the order. The bottom of the lineup in Coy Martino (Punxsutawney, Pa., Punxsutawney) and Dimitri Spagnola (West Leechburg, Pa., Kiski) each delivered key RBI knocks as the Mounties steadily extended its lead with multi-run frames in the fifth and sixth innings.

On the mound, Troy Misiura (Coalport, Pa., Glendale) delivered a composed and effective outing, working 6.2 innings while striking out six to earn the win. He navigated traffic throughout the day and limited damage, allowing the Mounties offense to build a comfortable cushion. Defensively, Mount Aloysius was sharp and fundamentally sound, committing no errors and supporting its pitching staff throughout.

Although La Roche made a late push in the seventh inning, the Mounties' early offensive explosion proved more than enough, as the Mount secured a convincing victory to open the doubleheader.

Game 2: La Roche 9, Mount Aloysius 7

Mt. Aloysius continued its strong offensive showing in game two, but a late-inning swing ultimately prevented the Mounties from completing the sweep, as they fell 9-7 to La Roche in game two. Despite the loss, the Mounties once again showcased depth at the plate, totaling 16 hits and controlling much of the game into the later innings.

The Mounties wasted no time getting started, scoring twice in the first inning to jump out to an early lead. Alexander remained a consistent presence in the two-spot of the batting order, driving in two runs, while the offense continued to string together quality at-bats across multiple innings. The Mounties added runs in the third and fourth before breaking through again in the fifth, when Michael Todd (Pittsburgh, Pa., Seton LaSalle) delivered a two-run single to extend the advantage.

Several Mounties turned swung it well, with Liam McCarty (Buffalo, N.Y., Canisius) and Dickson each collecting three hits, and Quade adding a multi-hit effort of his own. The lineup consistently put pressure on La Roche pitching, generating traffic on the bases and forcing defensive plays throughout the afternoon.

On the mound, Dickson provided a solid start, going six innings and keeping the Mounties in front by limiting La Roche to four earned runs. The Mounties carried a 7-5 lead into the late innings and appeared in position to secure the sweep.

However, La Roche capitalized in the eighth inning, taking advantage of a combination of timely hitting and Mounties defensive miscues to plate four runs and take the lead. Despite the setback, Mount Aloysius continued to battle offensively but was unable to recover in the final frame.

With the split, the Mounties move to 12-21 (6-7, AMCC) on the year. They travel to Juniata (9-21) on Tuesday for a non-conference single nine at 4:00 in Huntingdon, PA. They'll go back into conference play on Saturday with a crucial road doubleheader at the second-place Hilbert Hawks (18-11, 7-4 AMCC).
