Johnstown, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball season came to a close on Thursday at Sargent's Stadium as the Mounties dropped a pair of games in the AMCC Tournament against Penn State Behrend and Alfred State. Despite the tough ending, Mount Aloysius continued to battle throughout both contests, highlighted by several strong offensive performances and a memorable final collegiate at-bat from senior
Tyler Day.
Game One – Penn State Behrend 20, Mount Aloysius 2
Penn State Behrend used an explosive offensive performance to defeat Mount Aloysius, 20-2, in the opening game of the AMCC Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Johnstown.
The Lions scored in six of the first eight innings and totaled 16 hits, including three home runs, to build an early advantage. Behrend plated four runs in the opening two innings before adding three more in the third to take control of the contest.
Despite facing one of the conference's top pitching staffs, the Mounties continued to compete offensively late in the game. Mount Aloysius broke through in the seventh inning when Tyler Alexander tripled and later scored on an RBI single from Anthony Maseto. The Mounties added another run in the ninth after Alexander once again came around to score, this time on a Maseto RBI groundout.
Alexander paced the Mountie offense with a 2-for-4 performance and scored both runs. Maseto drove in both Mount Aloysius runs while also collecting a hit and a walk. Dimitri Spagnola, Cole Harkness, and Michael Todd each added hits in the loss.
On the mound, Anthony Maseto made his first appearance on the mound this season while six Mountie pitchers combined to finish the game. Jacob Smith provided 2.1 innings of relief and struck out three batters.
Game Two – Alfred State 15, Mount Aloysius 4
Mount Aloysius battled until the final out in its elimination game Thursday night, but Alfred State pulled away for a 15-4 victory to end the Mounties' season.
The Mounties struck first in the opening inning when Logan Quade scored on an RBI single from Anthony Maseto to give Mount Aloysius an early 1-0 lead.
Alfred State answered with three runs in the third inning before adding five more in the fifth to create separation. The Pioneers were powered offensively by Sean Connor, who finished with four hits and six RBIs, including a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Connor also homered off the Mounties yesterday as well.
Mount Aloysius continued to fight late and produced one of their best innings of the day. Senior Tyler Day delivered a pinch-hit single in what marked the final at-bat of his collegiate career and later came around to score. Logan Quade followed with an RBI single before Tyler Alexander ripped an RBI double to left-center field that also brought home another run on an outfield error.
Quade turned in one of his best performances of the season, finishing 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Alexander added two hits and an RBI, while Maseto drove in a run and reached base twice. Jack Foster, Michael Todd, Sidric Grove, Dimitri Spagnola, and Tyler Day also recorded hits for the Mounties.
Troy Misiura got the start on the mound for Mount Aloysius and tossed 4.1 innings. Matthew Watkins, Dawson Wetherald, Michael Cacciotti, and Tanner Abrams all appeared in relief.
With the pair of losses, the Mounties conclude the 2026 season with a 15-26 overall record and a postseason win under first-year head coach Patrick Gully.
