EBENSBURG, Pa. - The Mount Aloysius College women's tennis team opened its home schedule Saturday afternoon, hosting Waynesburg at the Ebensburg Tennis Center. The Mounties battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell to the Yellow Jackets, 6-1.
Morgan Allen (Johnstown, Pa., Westmont Hilltop) provided the Mounties' lone team point with a dominant performance at No. 1 singles. Allen cruised past Waynesburg's Julia Luzar, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Allen also teamed with Lauryn Kitchen (Clearfield, PA, Clearfield) at No. 1 doubles, where the Mountie duo picked up a 6-2 victory over Celeste Matsaudza and Karly Starcher.
Kitchen battled at No. 2 singles, while Kaylee Mento (Cresson, Pa., Penn Cambria), Samara Scott (Claysville, Pa., Central Catholic (W.Va.)), Mariah Hall (New Enterprise, Pa., Northern Bedford) and Masie Reed (Shamokin, Pa., Our Lady of Lourdes) also competed in singles action for Mount Aloysius.
In doubles play, Mento and Scott fell 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Hall and Reed dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 3 doubles.
The Mounties will have a quick turnaround, returning to the court Monday afternoon when they host Pitt-Greensburg at 4 p.m. back on campus at the Ray & Louise Walker Athletic Complex.
Mount Aloysius opened the season against the Bobcats, falling 5-2, and will look to even the season series and avenge the season-opening loss on Monday.
