LATROBE, Pa. - The Mount Aloysius women's tennis team picked up its second consecutive victory Friday afternoon, earning a 5-2 road win over Saint Vincent at the SVC Courts.
The Mounties improve to 3-3 overall with the victory, moving back to the .500 mark on the season.
Mount Aloysius set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
At No. 1 doubles, Morgan Allen (Johnstown, Pa., Westmont Hilltop) and Lauryn Kitchen (Clearfield, PA, Clearfield) cruised to a 6-0 victory over Sydney McWreath and Cecilia Hickin. Kaylee Mento (Cresson, Pa., Penn Cambria) and Samara Scott (Claysville, Pa., Central Catholic (W.Va.)) followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Mariah Hall (New Enterprise, Pa., Northern Bedford) and Masie Reed (Shamokin, Pa., Our Lady of Lourdes) completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
Allen continued her dominant afternoon in singles, blanking McWreath 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to give the Mounties another point.
Kitchen also earned a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Hickin 6-4, 6-1 to put Mount Aloysius within one point of clinching the match.
Mento then battled through a three-set match at No. 3 singles. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Mento responded by taking the second set 6-2 before winning the super tiebreaker 10-7 to secure another Mountie point.
Reed provided the match-clinching point at No. 6 singles, rolling past Jade Schuffert 6-1, 6-1.
Saint Vincent picked up its two points at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Scott battled through a tightly contested match at No. 4 before falling to Kaylee Overly in a super tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 10-7, while Hall dropped her No. 5 singles match to Emily Meltzer, 6-3, 6-1.
With the victory, the Mounties have now won two straight matches and return to the .500 mark at 3-3 overall.
Mount Aloysius will face another tough test Sunday afternoon when it returns to AMCC play against Penn State Altoona (8-1). First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.
