NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Mount Aloysius College women's soccer team opened its 2026 season Friday evening, falling 2-0 to Westminster at the UPMC Sports Complex.
The Mounties battled throughout the 90-minute contest, but a pair of first-half goals from Westminster's Jocelyn Gratchic proved to be the difference as the Titans secured the season-opening victory.
Westminster wasted little time finding the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:05 into the contest. Gratchic finished off a feed from Quinn Arnold to give the Titans the early advantage.
The Mount settled in defensively following the early goal, continuing to battle as Westminster generated 15 shots in the opening half. The Mounties worked to keep the Titans from extending their advantage as the first half progressed.
Westminster added its second goal with just over three minutes remaining before halftime. Gratchic found the back of the net again at the 41:32 mark, this time off an assist from Zoe Puhala, sending the Titans into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
The Mounties came out of the locker room and held Westminster scoreless throughout the second half. Mount Aloysius continued to battle defensively and prevented the Titans from adding to their lead over the final 45 minutes.
Despite the setback, the Mounties will have little time to wait for their next opportunity, returning to the pitch tomorrow afternoon at Grove City. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Don Lyle Field.
Saturday's matchup will mark the third all-time meeting between Mount Aloysius and Grove City. The Mounties enter the contest looking for their first victory against the Wolverines, having gone 0-2 in the previous two meetings.
