Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

10-Man Mounties Come Back Against LaRoche

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team won their first match of the post season on Saturday, defeating La Roche College by a score of 2-1. The win moved the Mounties into the AMCC Semifinal Round.

The Mounties fell behind within 6 minutes as one of their defenders received a red card after a tackle that the referee deemed was denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. After the card was given out, LaRoche was able to put the free kick into the far corner to take a 1-0 lead.

Despite being down a man, the Mounties were able to control the majority of possession in the game. They out-shot a full strength La Roche team 14-4 in the first half and 9-5 in the second. The Mounties were able to tie the score in the 27th minute of play. Jonathan Fernandez played a long ball to Joshua Devlin. Devlin controlled the ball on the edge of the box, turned the defender around, and fired past the goalkeeper for his 11th goal of the year.

Mount Aloysius would score the go ahead goal in the 42nd minute. Freshman winger Connor Pielmeier played a through ball that fellow freshman Pau Aran was able to track down behind the defense. Aran shot from inside the 18 and found the top right corner of the net to give the Mounties the lead.

The Mounties were able to hold onto the lead in a rough game that saw the two teams receive a combined 9 yellow cards and 2 red cards. Goalkeeper James Eyre made 3 saves in the game, earning his 12th victory of the season.

The Mounties (15-3-1) advance to the semi-final round of the AMCC Tournament, where they will travel to Buffalo to take on the second seeded Medaille Mavericks. Earlier this season, the Mounties were able to earn a 3-2 victory at Medaille.
