Erie, PA - The third seeded Mount Aloysius Women's Tennis Team avenged their loss to Penn State Altoona in regular season play with a 5-3 victory to advance to the AMCC Championship match. The Mounties won the race to 5 points on their depth as they were able to pick up wins in the 2nd and 3rd doubles pairings as well as at the third, fifth and sixth singles positions.
In doubles the pairing of
Leah Stoehr and
Payton Whysong won their match by a score of 8-3, improving their record to 12-1 on the season. The 3rd pairing of Katelyn Arnold and
Maggie Willason took their match 8-2 remaining a perfect 12-0 on the year.
In singles play, Whysong (6-1, 6-2), Arnold (6-4, 6-4) and Willason (6-4, 6-4) all won their matches to get the Mounties to the required 5 points.
The win moves the Mounties to 13-2 on the season. They have guaranteed their best finish in program history. They will take on two-time defending champion Franciscan University on Sunday to decide the AMCC Champion.
