Erie, PA- The Mount Aloysius Women's Tennis team finished their season on Sunday as the fell to Franciscan University in the Championship match of the AMCC Tournament. Despite the loss, the Mounties finished in 2nd place, marking their best finish in program history.
The Mounties stayed close to the defending champions through doubles play. The Mounties lost at 1 and 3 doubles in tight matches that finished 5-8 and 6-8. The pairing of
Payton Whysong and
Leah Stoehr were able to pick up an 8-6 victory against the Friars at the second position. The pairing gave Franciscan its only lost point against AMCC opponents in doubles play all season.Â
The Mounties were unable to pickup any points in singles play as Franciscan won the first three games of the match, winning the race to 5 points.
Katelynn Arnold and
Payton Whysong represented the Mounties in the All Tournament Team.Â
The Mounties finish their season at 13-3 with a trophy for 2nd place in the AMCC. The Mounties graduate two players but will look to build on their success from this season.
