Men's Soccer Takes Down Penn State Altoona

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team defeated Penn State Altoona Wednesday night to pick up their 10th straight win.

The Mounties struck quickly as they scored 4 goals in the first half. Near the 10 minute mark, Ludvig Hegdal broke the ice as he struck a one time shot off of a low cross from Joshua Christie. The goal was Hegdal's 3rd of the season. About 5 minutes later, James Maddison found Christopher Moses with a long ball over the defense. Moses took one touch around the keeper and slid home his second goal of the season.

Freshman Winger Pau Aran set up the next 3 goals for the Mounties. In the 25th minute, Aran dribbled around the defense, and slid a pass back to the onrushing Jonathan Fernandez, who calmly pu a one time finish into the net. About a minute later, Aran created space on the wing and ripped a shot towards the far corner, the shot was saved by the Penn State Altoona Keeper, however the rebound was headed home by Erik Johansson. Aran set up Fernandez for a second time 35 seconds after the break. Aran dribbled through the defense and from a tight angle chipped a ball over the goalkeeper where Fernandez was able to head the ball into the open net.

Johansson capped off the scoring in the 73rd minute. Johansson and freshman Anton Hoshovsky played a beautiful give and go that finished with Johansson hitting a shot past the near post for his 5th goal of the season. The Mounties finished with 31 shots with 18 of them on frame. Goalkeeper James Eyre made 5 saves en route to his 9th win and league leading 8th shutout of the year.

The Mounties (10-1-1) will be back in action this Saturday when they host Hilbert College and celebrate Senior Day.
