Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team celebrated Senior Day in style as they defeated Hilbert College 12-0 on Saturday. Before the action, the Mounties took a moment to recognize 7 seniors. These 7 seniors were the last class that was a part of the team that won the program's first AMCCÂ Championship in 2015. The seniors recognized were goalkeeper
Allister Noronha, defenders
Christopher Godet,
Pete Smerecky and
John Whittington, central midfielders
Zachary Herr and
Daniel Roberts and attacker
Trenton Hoag.
The Mounties controlled almost all of the possession as they amassed 59 shots in the game while their opponents could only muster 1. The Mounties scored 9 goals in the first half from 6 different players. Smerecky got the scoring started in the 8th minute when he was able to get the last touch on a dangerous corner kick. The goal was Smerecky's 4th of the year.
Jonathan Fernandez doubled the lead two minutes later when he ran onto a through ball from
Joshua Devlin and finished to the far corner.
Pau Aran was able to add to his 7 assists with his first collegiate goal as he received a through ball from Fernandez, dribbled around a defender and finished easily. Herr celebrated his senior day by chipping in a goal in the 18th minute. He blasted a shot from outside the 18 that found the left corner of the net. Fernandez doubled his tally in the 20th as he received a long ball over the defense from Whittington. He collected the ball, took two touches and finished to the right corner.Â
Sophomore
Erik Johansson tallied a hat trick in 15 minutes near the end of the half to bring his team leading goal total to 8. All the goals came on one-touch finishes after crosses. The first was a header at the back post in the 26th minute. In the 40th he recieved a low cross from
Connor Pielmeier and finished it easily into the corner. Only 27 seconds later he completed his hat trick after a through ball that he was able to run onto and strike to the far post. Freshman
Ludvig Hegdal also chipped in a goal in the 27th, his 4th of the year.
Pau Aran was able to double his goal total just after halftime. He hit a long curling shot from the right wing which went over the keepers head and into the goal for the Mountie's of the game.
Colby Snyder was able to open his Mountie goal account in the 70th minute on a one time finish from a Pielmeier cross. Finally Senior
Trenton Hoag finished off the scoring with his first goal in a Mountie uniform. He was able to hit a half volley on a pass from Dan Roberts that flew past the keeper for goal number 12.
The win was the Mounties 11th straight victory and moved them to 11-1-1 on the season and  5-0 in AMCC play. They will continue their season next Tuesday when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg.
