Mounties Fall in Rematch with Frostburg State

Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius Women's Basketball team hosted Frostburg State on Saturday, falling in a rematch of a game in the Jim Crawley Classic by a score of 74-62.

There was not much between the teams in the first period, as neither team built a lead larger than 4 points. Frostburg State had an early lead, however a Lea Sammarco (Patton, PA/Bishop Carroll) three gave the Mounties their first lead of the game with 5:16 to go. This was followed up by a Breana Kendrick (Broad Top City, PA/Tussey Mountain) lay up to push the lead to 3. Macy King (New Bethlehem, PA/Redbank Valley) hit a late jumper with just under a minute left to give the Mounties a 2 point lead at the first intermission. The Mountie lead would not last long as Frostburg used an 11-0 run to take the lead for good to start the second. Frostburg dominated the quarter, building their lead up to as many as 16. The Mounties used 4 late free throw line in the final minute to cut the lead to 12 at the half.

The Mounties came out firing after the halftime break, as a three by Hannah Kitko (Houtzdale, PA/Moshannon Valley) and a jumper from Caroline Showalter (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood Antis) got the lead into single digits. The following minutes were back and forth as Frostburg would score to increase the lead and another three from Kitko and 7 quick points from Rachel Robinson (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) put the Mounties down 6 with 4:40 left in the third. Both teams struggled offensively in the remainder of the period, with Mount Aloysius scoring 2 more and Frostburg adding 6. In the 4th, Frostburg started the quarter with a 5-0 run to restore the 13 point lead, and the Mounties were not able to complete the comeback, as the lead never dropped lower than 8 points.

Kendrick led the Mounties offensively, scoring 25 points. Robinson was the only other player to finish in double figures as she recorded 10 points in the game.

The Mounties (2-10) will return to AMCC action in the new year, when they travel to LaRoche College on Wednesday, January 2nd starting at 6 PM.
