Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team picked up a home victory Wednesday night, as they defeated Bethany College 2-0.
The first half was a stalemate for the two squads. Both teams mustered 3 shots but combined for 19 fouls in the half.
James Eyre made all three stops in the half inlcuding an awkward save on a header shot which was cleared away by the Mountie defense.
The Mounties were able to pull ahead in the 59th minute. Sophomore midfielder
Jonathan Fernandez recieved a pass at the top of the eighteen yard box and ripped a shot into the top corner. The goal was Fernandez's first of the year. In the 80th minute, the Mounties doubled their advantage. After Josh Devlin was pulled down in the box,
Cameron Kemp calmly scored on the ensuing penalty kick, marking his first goal in a Mountie uniform.
Eyre had a quiet second half as the Mounties dominated possession after Bethany was reduced to 10 men. He made 2 total saves in the game, picking up his 4th shutout of the season.
The Mounties (4-1-1) will be back in action twice this weekend. They will host Waynesburg University on Saturday following the women's match, and will also host Alfred State on Sunday starting at 2:00PM.
