Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team picked up two wins over the weekend to move their record to 6-1-1.
On Saturday they hosted Waynesburg University, and got off to a quick start. In the second minute of play,
Pau Aran dribbled around a defender on the left wing and played a pass back to the edge of the 18 yard box.
James Maddison met the pass with a one time controlled shot and put it in the low left corner to give the Mounties the early lead. Later in the half,
Ludvig Hegdal collected the ball in the box after a blocked shot and slid the ball past the keeper for his second goal of the season.
The Mounties struck again 7 minutes after the half time break, in a similar fashion to the first goal.
Joshua Devlin controlled the ball in the penalty area and laid a pass back to senior midfielder
Zachary Herr, who calmly placed a shot to the lower corner for his first goal of the year. Devlin capped off the Mountie win in the 75th minute, as he again controlled the ball in the box and blasted a shot into the right corner to push the Mountie lead to 4-0.
Junior goalkeeper
James Eyre made 5 saves in the game to pick up his 4th shut out of the season.
The Mounties returned to the field on Saturday to take on Alfred State. The Mounties started off firing again, scoring in the first few minutes of play. After some beautiful team passing by the Mounties, freshman
Joshua Christie finished the move with a finish to the lower corner. The goal was Christie's first in a Mountie uniform. Alfred State was able to strike back in the 11th minute, but Mount Aloysius quickly regained their composure and regained the lead a few minutes later. Devlin scored his second goal in as many days on a pass from
Ludvig Hegdal. The assists was Hegdal's second of the game.
Christie scored again 8 minutes after the break, finishing from the top of the 18 yard box to the far lower corner of the net. Finally freshman
Christopher Moses finished off a high scoring weekend for the Mounties in the 84th. He ripped a shot from the corner of the penalty area into the far corner to open his Mount Aloysius account. Eyre finished the game with 2 saves and one goal allowed while picking up his 5th win of the season.
