Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team picked up their 7th straight win on Saturday, defeating Pitt-Bradford 6-0.
The Mounties started off quickly as they were able to score 2 goals inside the opening 10 minutes. The opening goal came off a through pass from
Joshua Devlin. Devlin played the ball behind the back line where 2 Mounties were alone on the keeper.
Joshua Christie collected the pass and as the keeper was rushing towards him, played a pass to his left side where
Anton Hoshovsky had an open net. Hoshovsky easily played the ball into the goal to score his first in a Mountie uniform. Christie would double the lead less than a minute later.
Oscar Andersson played a ball down the left flank where Christie was able to run onto the ball, cut inside and fire a shot that curled away from the keeper and into the left side netting.
With a 2-0 lead the Mounties were able to pick up a man advantage as a Pitt-Bradford defender intentionally handled the ball on the goal line, receiving a red card. The Mounties took the most of the man advantage as they dominated possession for most of the game amassing 33 shots to only 6 for their opponent. They were able to add to the lead before the break as
Erik Johansson rose above the defense on a corner kick from
James Maddison to head the ball into the top corner of the goal.
The Mounties repeated their three goal performance in the first half, with three more in the second. A few minutes after the break Hoshovsky and Devlin combined on a beautiful one touch give and go that resulted in Hoshovsky placing a shot in the upper right corner for his brace. Senior
Christopher Godet chipped in with a goal from his center back position as well. Fellow senior center back
Pete Smerecky was able to track down a corner which went over both sides towards the sideline. He fired a cross back into the penalty area which Godet met with a one time finish into the lower left corner of the goal. Johansson tallied the sixth goal of the game a few minutes later. Johansson was streaking down the left wing when he struck a ball that floated over the goalkeeper and into the right side netting of the goal.
Goalkeeper
James Eyre directed his back line skillfully yet again, making 4 saves in his fifth shut out of the season.
The Mounties (7-1-1) will continue conference action this Tuesday. They will host LaRoche College under the lights, after the completion of the Women's game.
