Bradford, PA - The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team lost its 3rd straight game on Saturday afternoon, falling to Pitt-Bradford by a score of 62-59.
The Mounties had a rough start offensively, as they didn't hit double digits on the scoreboard until there was 8:20 remaining in the half when
Trent McErlane (Greenville, PA/Greenville) hit a three. The three gave the lead to the Mounties, largely due to their strong defensive effort, but also to some quality minutes from freshmen
Imil Britt (Johnstown, PA/Greater Johnstown) and
Enoch Quarcoo (Eastbourne England). In three minutes of play, Britt dished out three quick assists with Quarcoo finishing two of them to cut the Bradford lead from 6 points to 2. The Panthers responded to McErlane's three as they went on to build a 9 point lead over the following 3 minutes. Mount Aloysius would come back, as they went on a 14-3 run over the next 3:27 to take the lead. The run was punctuated as
Nate Christian (Accokeek, MD/Surratsville/Hood) finished a three point play to tie the game and followed it up with a midrange jumper to put the Mounties ahead. Pitt-Bradford was able to score 5 unanswered in the final minute to take a 3 point lead into the locker room.
The Mounties again started the half off struggling, as Bradford quickly built a double digit lead. The lead reached its highest point of 13 with just under 12 minutes remaining. After trading baskets for 6 minutes Mount Aloysius started a comeback with 6:45 to go. Down 11, Christian hit two consecutive layups and
Julian Stover (Washington, DC/Richard Montgomery) made two from the line to cut the lead in half. After another three moved the Bradford lead back to 8, Stover and Christian continued to whittle into the lead as Christian hit a lay up with 40 seconds remaining to cut the lead to just 1 point. After 20 seconds of tight defense, Mount Aloysius fouled to send Pitt-Bradford to the line. Bradford's George Alston missed the front end of the 1 and 1 and
Tommy Pisula (Scottdale, Pa/Southmoreland) grabbed the rebound and quickly used the Mounties last time out. The Mounties were able to get the ball back in Christian's hands with a chance to win the game, however a heads up steal on a double team from Reginald Rogers put the game away for the Panthers.
Despite the game ending in heartbreaking fashion, Christian put in his strongest offensive effort in a Mountie uniform. He finished with 19 points in 36 minutes of play. He also grabbed 6 rebounds and had 3 steals. Stover was the only other double digit scorer for the Mounties, as he finished with 10 points.Â
The loss moves the Mounties to 7-7 on the season with a 4-3 record in conference play. The Mounties will look to return to winning at home next Saturday, where they are 4-0 on the season so far. They will host AMCC opponent D'Youville College beginning at 3:00 PM.
