Mounties Complete Comback Attempt, Win 3-2

PITTSBURGH -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team traveled to La Roche on Tuesday afternoon, where they were able to come away with their second straight AMCC victory, third straight victory overall.

Following two early goals by La Roche, the Mounties were able to score three unanswered goals, to come-from-behind for the victory.

The scoring started in the 15th minute, when Hugo Arroyo scored for the Redhawks, on a direct corner kick. Arroyo's goal gave the Redhawks a 1-0 advantage.

In the 22nd minute, the Mounties committed a foul to the left of their own goal, in the box. The foul resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for La Roche. Firas Abduljawad was able to slide his shot into the back of the net, to give them a 2-0 lead.

The Mounties were able to cut the deficit in half, in the last minute of the first period. Nick Anagnostiadis (Sydney, Australia, St. Patrick's College) was able to find James Maddison (Trimdon, England, Moulton College) in the middle of the field where he let loose a shot on a bouncing ball. His shot went just under the crossbar and over the goalkeeper's hands to make the score 2-1. The goal was Maddison's second of the season.

Joshua Devlin (Southend-on-Sea, England, Seevic College) was able to even the score on a penalty kick opportunity just over a minute into the second half. The PK gave Devlin his conference leading, ninth goal of the year.

As the second half played on, the Mounties controlled most of the game, as they outshot the Redhawks, 17-6, in the half. The La Roche goalkeeper, Austin Gorman, tallied three saves in the second half.

In the 83rd minute, Freshman Linus Westberg (Malmo, Sweden, Sundsgymnasiet), deposited a bouncing ball into the bottom right corner of the goal, giving Mount Aloysius a 3-2 lead.

The Redhawks were able to attempt two more shots, and had one corner kick, in the final seven minutes of the game. Neither of their shots would end up on target, thus giving the Mounties a 3-2 victory.

With the victory, Mount Aloysius improves to 2-1 in AMCC play, 7-4 overall. They will return to the pitch, this weekend, when they host Hilbert. The Men's and Women's doubleheader is part of Mount Aloysius' Homecoming Weekend. The Men's game will start at 1:00 PM.
