Buffalo, NY -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team traveled to D'Youville College on Saturday, where they came away with a 2-1 victory in double overtime.
The Mounties controlled most of the stat sheet, as they outshot the Spartans 23-4. They were able to place 14 shots on goal, compared to three by three for D'Youville. They also took all six corner kicks of the game.
On the fifth shot on goal, in the first half, the Mounties'
Joshua Devlin (Southend-on-Sea, England, Seevic College), scored via a pass from
Pau Aran (Barcelona, Spain, Colegio Inglés Playa del Carmen), for the first goal of the game. The score came with just under five minutes left in the first half. With the goal, Devlin currently ranks second in the AMCC with 11 goals on the year.
In the 64th minute, D'Youville was able to tie the game at one. The goal came as one of their three shots on goal, all coming in the second half. Neither team was able to score the rest of the half, sending the game into extra time.
Following a scoreless first overtime, that saw the Mounties put two shots on goal, Aran was able to put one past D'Youville keeper, Kyle Dick. Aran's "Golden Goal" ended the game, and gave the Mounties a 2-1 win.
The win improved the Mounties' record to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in AMCC play. The game began the final six game stretch of the season, which are all AMCC matchups. The next of which will take place on Tuesday night, at 6:00 PM, when rival, Penn State Altoona, visits Cresson. Mount Aloysius has not lost to Penn State Altoona, since the 2016 season.
