Cresson -- The Mount Aloysius Volleyball team hosted Alfred State and Franciscan University in an AMCC Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon. They came away with two, 3-0 victories to improve to 6-1 in AMCC competition.
GAME 1
The Mounties opened up the afternoon with Alfred State. They dispatched the Pioneers with 25-18, 25-15, and 25-20 scores. They hit .242 for the game, limiting Alflred State to .054.
Ashlee Parrish (Northern Cambria, PA, Northern Cambria)Â led the team in kills with 11.Â
Machala Gibbons (Cairnbrook, PA, Bishop McCort) registered a double-double with 10 kills and a game-high 16 digs.Â
Kylee Clawson (Altoona, PA, Altoona) andÂ
Hannah Atzeni (Sligo, PA, Union) also earned double-digit digs with 11 and 10, respectively.Â
Emma Pevarnik (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) led the all players in the game, with 33 assists.
It was the Mounties' first ever meeting with the Pioneers. With the win, the Mounties won their fifth AMCC contest. They would sit to watch Franciscan take the court against the Pioneers, at 3:00 PM.
GAME 2
Mount Aloysius faced Franciscan in Game 2. Franciscan came in 3-1 after defeating Alfred State.
The Mounties got off to an insanely hot start, as they dismantled the Barons in the first set 25-5. Franciscan only finished the set with two kills, both from Meghan Bayer. Mount Aloysius his .556 with 11 kills and only one error.
They also got out to a quick start in the second set, as well. The Mounties pushed their lead to six, at 10-4. They would hold a steady advantage the rest of the set, as Franciscan would be able to cut the lead to two, late, but were unable to get closer. The 25-22 set win was the closest of the day for the Mounties, up to that point.
Set three tested both squads. Franciscan got out to a five-point lead, 8-3, and a six-point lead, 18-12, both of which the Mounties would come back to tie. Following a Baron kill by MaryKate Taylor, that gave the Barons a 25-24 lead, Mount Aloysius went to Gibbons for two consecutive kills. With the advantage, Clawson finished off the game with an ace, finishing up the come-from-behind victory.
Gibbons was the only Mountie with double-digit kills, as she finished with 15, to go along with 12 digs. Clawson led the defense with 17 digs, followed up byÂ
Carly Swope (Big Cove Tannery, PA, Mcconnellsburg) who also added 12. Pevarnik added another 36 assists, to bring her daily total to 75.
Mount Aloysius currently sits in second place in the AMCC, behind Penn State Behrend. Behrend is currently undefeated in confrerence play. The Mounties will test their 6-1 record again on Tuesday at Pitt-Greensburg. They will then battle Penn State Behrend, on Saturday.Â
