Mounties Win Fourth Straight, Set Up Battle for First Place

Greensburg -- The Mount Aloysius Volleyball team traveled to Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday night, to play the Bobcats. They came away with a 3-1 victory.

The Mounties got off to a hot start behind a 25-10, 25-13 first two sets. The Mounties committed 10 total errors in the first two sets, while the Bobcats committed 15.

In the third set, things got a bit rocky for Mount Aloysius. UPG got out to a 14-6 lead in the set. The lead was in part thanks to 10 kills and an ace, as they finished with 17 kills in the set. The Mounties were able to cut the lead to 18-17, but the Bobcats extended the lead again before winning 25-20.

The fourth set came down to the wire. Both teams went on 4+ point runs early in the set. The game stayed close as it reached the end, with ties at 17, 18, 23, and 24. With the game on the line, Mount Aloysius setter Emma Pevarnik (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) made two sets to Machala Gibbons (Cairnbrook, PA, Bishop McCort) for kills, to end the game with the final two points.

By winning the fourth set, the Mounties were able to end the game with a 3-1 win.

Gibbons led the Mounties as she registered her 14th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 22 digs. Pevarnik also added her 6th game of the season with over 40 assists, as she finished with 47. Kylee Clawson (Altoona, PA, Altoona) led the defense with 26 digs.

Offensively, Ashlee Parrish (Northern Cambria, PA, Northern Cambria) added 15 kills, while Ava Myers (Gallitzin, PA, Bishop Carroll) added nine. The Mounties hit .264 for the game, with Macy King (New Bethlehem, PA, Redbank Valley) and Myers hitting over .400.
