Youngwood, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer Team took on Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday afternoon, on the campus of Westmoreland County Community College. The Mounties took down the Bobcats, 8-0.
After seeing the Mounties score two goals as bookends of the second half, they would go on to score six more times in the second half.
Anton Hoshovsky (Canberra, Australia, Radford College)Â put the first goal on the board one minute and 37 seconds into the game, as he finished a crossing pass from
James Maddison (Trimdon, England, Moulton College). The Mounties held tough and took six shots on goal compared to one for the Bobcats in the final 43 plus minutes of the first half. On the final shot on goal of the half,Â
Joshua Devlin (Southend-on-Sea, England, Seevic College) scored his first goal of the day, on an assist from
Tevin Beadle (Kingston, Jamaica, St. George's College). Devlin's goal sent Mount Aloysius to the locker room, ahead 2-0.
The second half scoring spree opened up ten minutes in, when Devlin scored his second goal of the game.Â
Joshua Christie (Aberdeen, Scotland, Hazlehead Academy) picked up the assist to Devlin when he found him near the back post. Devlin's second goal gave him 14 goals on the season, tying the program's single-season record, set in 2017 by
Will Funez.
Just under three minutes later, Devlin scored his third goal of the game, completing the hat trick. The free kick goal also gave him 15 goals on the season, setting a new program record. It also brought his season point total to 32, tying the single-season record, as well.
Hoshovsky added another goal under a minute later, finishing off a cross fromÂ
Nick Anagnostiadis (Sydney, Australia, St. Patrick's College) with a header.
In the final 30 minutes, the Mounties also added goals from
Erik Johansson (Malmö, Sweden, ProCivitas Privata Gymnasium), Anagnostiadis, and
Michael Boyle (Woolwich Township, NJ, Kingsway).
The eight goals were the highest total for the Mounties since their Homecoming victory over Hilbert when they scored 9 goals.
In addition to becoming the single-season record holder, Devlin also added to his total career goals, which are also a program best. He currently has 42 career goals.
The Mounties will look to finish out the regular season at home, as they play their final two games at Mount Aloysius. They host Alfred State on Senior Day, Saturday, then will host Franciscan in the regular season finale, on Tuesday.
